15 Tips to Getting Your Shit Together

Getting your life in order can seem to be an insurmountable process, but taking small steps consistently can make a significant difference. Here are 15 steps to help you get organized and improve various aspects of your life:

#1 Set Clear Goals:

Define your short-term and long-term goals. Make them specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). Keeping a journal is central to an organized life. There are many different formats, shapes and sizes of journals. I prefer the old “write it down” method. Moving past the standard college ruled spiral bound, I adulted my way to a standard moleskin. Some people like to transcribe into their phone, making it possible to set tasks and reminders. Use the most comfortable method that fits your needs.

#2 Prioritize Tasks:

Create a to-do list and prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance. Focus on high-priority items first.

#3 Create a Routine:

Establish a daily routine to bring structure to your day. Include time for work, self-care, and leisure.

#4 Declutter Your Space:

Organize your living and working spaces. Decluttering can help clear your mind and create a more productive environment.

#5 Financial Planning:

Create a budget and track your spending. Set financial goals and work towards saving and investing for your future.

#6 Health and Fitness:

Prioritize your physical and mental health. Establish a regular exercise routine and ensure you’re getting adequate sleep.

#7 Learn Time Management:

Improve your time management skills. Break larger tasks into smaller, manageable chunks, and allocate specific time slots for each.

#8 Improve Productivity:

Identify and eliminate distractions. Use productivity tools and techniques to stay focused on your tasks.

#9 Build Healthy Habits:

Develop positive habits that align with your goals. Whether it’s reading, meditation, or journaling, establish routines that contribute to your well-being.

#10 Self-Reflection:

Regularly assess your progress and adjust your goals and plans accordingly. Self-reflection can help you stay on track.

#11 Continuous Learning:

Invest time in learning new skills or enhancing existing ones. This could contribute to personal and professional growth.

#12 Social Connections:

Nurture positive relationships. Spend time with friends and family who support and uplift you.

#13 Set Boundaries:

Learn to say no when necessary. Establish clear boundaries to avoid burnout and prioritize your well-being.

#14 Seek Professional Help:

If needed, don’t hesitate to seek advice or assistance from professionals, whether it’s related to mental health, career guidance, or financial planning.

#15 Celebrate Achievements:

Acknowledge and celebrate your successes, no matter how small. Recognizing achievements boosts motivation and confidence.

Remember, change takes time, so be patient with yourself and stay committed to the process. Start with a few of these steps and gradually incorporate more as you feel comfortable.
